In 2005 Peter Mason* and his team began a 3 year long, $180 Million renovation of the landmark Reginald Johnson Four Seasons property in Santa Barbara for Ty Warner Resorts & Hotels, with the idea of returning it to its heyday as one of the world’s great resorts. The Spanish Colonial Revival historically significant building exteriors were preserved while the interiors were completely renovated. The restoration was accomplished with high regard for historical accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
In order to maintain an operational hotel and a quality guest experience, the renovation was done in six phases over a 3 year period. There were numerous additions to the project. In each case, the exterior design complemented the original Reginald Johnson design character. Guest rooms are unique, utilizing the same components and modern amenities, but individually modified to reflect the existing infrastructure.
The 22 acre Biltmore Santa Barbara site includes 207 luxury, oceanfront guest rooms and suites located in the low-lying main buildings and in a collection of 12 secluded single-story cottages in the lush gardens at the rear of the property. Each cottage comprises three to five guest rooms and has its own private entrance.
