The design effort for the property initially focused on the construction of a new house. However, at the owner’s request, the existing house was retained and transformed into an ADU catering to the owner’s mother in a multi-generational family setup.
To meet Woodside building codes, adjustments were made to the floor area, but the original layout of the house was retained because of its sentimental value to the family. The ADU, along with the new main house, will create an enclosed courtyard that serves as the primary hub for family activities. As part of the renovation, the roof of the ADU will be replaced to harmonize with the modern style of the new construction. Additionally, during the initial consultation MASON Architects advised our clients that this site could apply to connect to the municipal sewer system which has since been achieved.
